?? could the carthagians not write or is there no one around that can read it now??
Cartage was burned. Books are flammable. Books had to be hand copied for almost 2000 years. The Romans did not like Carthage's version of the story. Tyre used the Phoenician script. Carthage was founded by settlers from Tyre and traded with them for a long time. Odds are very high that it was a readable phonetic alphabet.
in that march the cartagens didnt really support Hannibal, after a glorious battle he sent a messenger with the rings of Roman soliders to cartage to show that he can beat them but needs more troops, the cartagens refused... that was really sad
The Roman fleet sinking a bunch of ships and taking Sicily was a problem. It is also tricky trying to meet up without radios or cell phones. If Carthage supply ships sailed to the wrong Italian port it would have gotten ugly. They could not just dump supplies on the beach and expect Hannibal to find them.
