Does a +/- attack bonus affect anything other than 'Attack' stat?  If so, what does it affect?  Starmyth

the melee research increase the damages that all your troops (inc. archers) inflict in the melee phase. Archers damages are conditionned by your archery level during archer phase (field battle and siege)

well yes ... archers would inflict more damages during melee phase of field and garrison battles ... but considering they are pretty much useless at killing swordsmen and horsemen of equal tech levels, your melee or archery tech levels wouldn't matter much anyways.
on the other hand, if the siege can last several turns (> 8), then your archers can inflict serious losses to any attackers.
