The real bggest loser!!!!

« on: June 11, 2008, 11:14:09 AM »

Hi,

In portugal today we are having shortages of gasoline and diesel as a result of striking truck drivers demanding a reduction in the price of fuel.

I was wondering if anyone else in any other country is experiencing this sort of problem.  Just today three of my salespeople were unable to come to work as there is no gasoline in any of the pumps anywhere near their residence...

As a result of this strike, yesterday at my local supermarket there was no fresh fruit or vegetables as the truck drivers arent delivering anything anywhere.

What is this world coming to???

if this continues for a long time kingjohn, that will likely happen as i cant pay salaries for people to have the excuse they cant get gasoline.  this is unbelievable that in the 21st century, i cant get gasoline and fresh fruit in my local market...

there are actually striking truck drivers burning trucks if they try to load these things at the distribution centers....

u know I live in Malaysia, the weather here is very hot, but portugal, the scenery is nice and it's a very beautiful country, I didn't know you are from portugal, I thought you were from romania. And it's also healthy to cycle. Malaysia's road is not suitable to use bicycle but western countries is and the good weather is good for cycling and it's healthy too.

i agree that cycling is healthy, but in portugal it is dangerous.  on average in portugal, it costs 600€ to take your drivers licence and they dont teach you how to drive, they teach you how to not drive.

riding a bicycle is healty, but when factored in the horrible driving ability of the portuguese and the lack of respect that is quite evident on the roads in portugal, maybe the risk outweighs the health benefits of biking *xxx*

Luckily i live in America where we have two things, cheap gas and food...luckily our government does not tax oil to make gas $10 a gallon, only $4 here.  Sorry to here about your shortage, prob cause of our gas gosling vehicles  *crazy*  Besides killing the oil companies, we need to take out the oil speculation people. Oil would be around $30 cheaper if it just relied on supply and demand.  Speculators raise the price of oil if someone farts in the wind, we need to castrate and then tar and feather them ASAP *Angry*

well my friend I am from Greece and we had the same problem about a month ago.My advise... don't panic.Go to the fuel station and buy just the gasoline or the diesel you really need. That way you will keep the fuel stocks of your country in balance and when the strike is off you wont have a bigger price in fuels.

Aslo pay attention to my thoughts here :

On year 2000
1 $ = 1.2 €     and  1 barrel of oil = 60$
                           thus 1 barrel = 72 €

Today
1 $ = 0.62 €      and 1 barrel of oil at around 115$.
                           thus 1 barrel = 71,3 €

And now the million dollar question is :

If in European Union the price of oil barrel is the same (and maybe a litlle less than before) since 2000 , then why the price of gasoline and diesel hit the skies ?
Also keep in mind that the European Union buys in Brend prices thus 5-6 $ less than US prices , so the real price of oil today in European Union is less than 70 € a barrel  scratch

I am here for your thoughts in order to discuss the matter of fake oil prices that leads to fake prices for all products ( see the change in prices of rice and cereals in the last year or so) *bear* *ice*

We don't have fuel in half country already...
We had last night one truck driver that tried to force other one to stop, and the other didn't stop. He got killed!!
So we don't have fuel, fresh food it's ending, people get killed by trucks, police must escort fuel trucks and even like that, people break trucks windows...
Maybe it's time to me, to go in vacation *sos*

hello everybody, this is an interesting topic
there are many reasons why oil price before and after the apprecitaion of the euro on the dollar(that is the currency used for oil transactions) reamains the same level..
one is the speculization, the other the is strong growning of the developing countries...the 2 things are linked : in the future these economies will need huge amount of oil and derivates ,so in the world who has lots of free cash(oil-firm,multinationals,conglomerates,etc..) can buy(investing and tutelating his own purchase power ) oil today accumulate it(so the prices grown cause there is someone NOW who doesn't sell the oil extracted BEFORE for a certain price) and sell it in a future time, when the demand will be greater as much as these economies will grow(while the offer is constant, there is also who say oil will finish in 15 years,i hope that very much)...
What can we do : study,develop new technology and new forms of energy,or sit down,roll up,and don't think about it(very difficult indeed,but definetly nice)...the first countries who will suffer first from this situation are those weakiers,then the others,so we have more or less 10-15 years,enjoy this time  [:-}
the other big problem is the growning of cereals prices cause the bio-oil that can create with it..at the end oil is always the problem, togheter with the unstoppable population grown
