this building could make more than 1 reserch per time, like this:
level 1 to 9 you can make 1 reserch per time
10 to 19 you can make 2 reserch per time
20 to 29 you can make 3 reserch per time and so on this would be more interesting, because in my realm when start the lords of realm the game will end and just 20 or 30 people has elites because of the time to end all the itens

 *hihi* elites are just a dream for many when lord of realms start, io is now a heavy army party. only elites i kill are those in barbarian camp level 11, level 12 is impossible

heavy units are fun to play with too
most Wars between Alliances are fought only with heavy units

and Nomad camps can be defeated with heavy units only (though with heavy losses too *wink*)

since purpose of the suggestion is to obtain elite army , i would add my 2 cents ...

how about upgrading army was based on both - research and combat experience? after all, no army without combat experience can truly be considered elite. This could either be based on military points or perhaps stretched toward military system "vaguely similar" to Total War titles where army is composed of different units(unit as a group of soldiers), units are rewarded experience in combat and that experience enhances their statistics by a certain value. Units of course can be merged one with another(altough total experience of the unit is divided per soldier so merging higly experienced unit with freshemens would make like a medium experienced unit) and can be retrained after battle to full numbers maintaining lvl of experience. experience can ultimately be coupled with losses so fighting easy battles would offer less experience for all units than fighting tough battles, either winning or loosing.

yeah, a likely system could be reviewed as one of the conditions for unlocking Heavy and Elite units

it's not so much about experience here, and rather more about equipment and training.
training is figuratively assumed through the barracks and recruitment time.
as for equipment, it's done through both the researches cost/time and the unit's cost

true dat starbuck, heavies are the boss now, 160k heavy cavalry wipes out almost anything and are way cheaper than a handful of elites. losses on barbarian camp are much lower than losing your complete army for lack of gold. camp lvl 10/11 is a complete lifesaver when you connect in the morning raided and stuck in 2M negative gold. evil3

well, technically, elite army is cheaper than heavy by a whole third, at least statwise since each elite unit is 2 times more effective than its heavy unit equivalent while the upkeep goes up only by 50%. it's just pain in the a... to get there
