2 part question really ...
How do I find out what realm I am currently on? Yes I am a bit of a newbie here so still trying to get to grips with the game
And after finding out what realm I am on ... How can I get a friend who is currently in another realm to join mine?

Click on your avatar in the upper left corner of the village - http://prntscr.com/2uhqls to find out your realm.
Send your friend an invitation link. It is located in the Settings menu -> Account info -> Link to invite your friends.
