sometimes the defender has better defencive researches
it would be better if you raise the defender player armor,melee attack.....fortification it would give you more accurate calculations

Nothing else than losing battle because of army moral. You didn't manage to destroy his fort walls in not so many rounds and your army left battle before finishing. Its almost impossible to win battle with lower than 49 army moral at the end of battle, so use simulator and always watch finishing moral.

It looks like you got very far in the battle too, seeing as how your army made it to just 18 morale. Were you maybe attacking a fortress 8 or 9? It is also possible, though unlikely, that you spied the player as having fortress 7, but during your attack it finished building up to 8.
