The great people increase their age automatically, according to the speed of realm, based on the real time. There aren't messages/notifications when a great man will raise his age. They all get older at similar times, what differences have you noticed with your imperial family?
The chances are equal for a new baby to be born if two great people are married. The player can't affect it.
