Is it worth using Heavy Swordsmen as opposed to regular Swordsmen?

By stats, they are 50% stronger than regular units, but their costs and upkeep is 66.67% more.  Is it better to take those 17% and purchase more swordsmen?  As far as I know, they have the same abilities/bonuses.

also you should consider if you are attacking a fortress without siege engines. there is a limit to the number of soldiers that can attack a fort at one time (800 for a level 2, 1600 for level 3, 3200 for level 4 fortress). so if you only have swordsmen, they might not be able to bring down the fortress walls, but with heavy swordsmen, you could win the fortress siege even without siege engines.

Ohh, I see.  I didn't take into account the morale issue and I had no idea about the limitation on the number of units you could bring.

But very rarely!!! For goldies offcourse!!! But until carrying rules are implemented, it's not smart to build light units, if you can build heavy or elits!!!

And offcourse, it's ok, if you want to get a lot of mil.points during attack (garrisoning light archers) if you have to much population at hand...
