Post by: Q-bura on September 13, 2007, 12:23:30 PM
Heroes of Might&Magic is probably best game ever, especially 4th part, they consumed many days and nights of my life, and I am still playing it  *sos*

I agree that HOMM is one of the best games... I like a bit more Heroes 3 than Heroes 4, but Heroes III WoG (Wake of Gods) is much better than simple Heroes III

Title: Re: Heroes of Might and Magic
Post by: Lord Rogue on September 13, 2007, 15:27:27 PM
Hmmm I liked Heroes IV more. HOMM III was too much "uber-upgraded-everything". Every creature got upgrades and stuff. too much, IMO... you ended up with thousands of every creature.... it quickly turned from tactics to who's got the more forces.... tactical finesse and use of magic was secondary to having great forces... :-\

in HOMM IV having a good hero, having good spells to cast... good items.. and a good tactical plan... makes a huge difference....  and I like that...

Title: Re: Heroes of Might and Magic

Well, no only numbers. If one had armagedon balde and the artifact who protectd against spell, doom followed  :D

Title: Re: Heroes of Might and Magic
Post by: Lord Rogue on September 13, 2007, 15:32:14 PM
And then Sword of Frost and Armageddon's Blade clashed...

no. that's still BRUTE FORCE. THe UBER spell... the UBER weapon... the UBER creature (liked that souped-up Megadragon from the HOMM IV expansions).... it SUCKED big time... it was all about who is MORE UBER...

besides... did you know that Master Gremlins were weaker than Gremlins? GEEZ you upgraded a creature and it became less effective!!!!

yes, i remember that, strange indeed.

well, about the strategy vs brute force (aka warriors vs farmers), it depended a lot on the conditions of play. I usualy like to start with an early force, 1-2 weeks army, conquer 3-4 castle and win before the enemy had a chance of developing. In multiplayer, it was different, we had couple of hours for development, and then fights, there it was more like brute force, and nights spent on the game.

:D So, so...  *Angry* He is greater farmer  :D ...btw we are playing epic maps for longer periods on champion skill, and usually if we play without computer opponents we are avoiding conflicts untill reaching super high hero-levels and gathering GREAT armies, and then,..... :D :D :D  *Angry* *Angry* *Angry* ....It isn't always greater army that wins the map.... ;)

You should see what Poly does in HOMM... I didn't even know that you can Micromanage in it... but obviously you can... not to mention... Poly is the greatest map designer I've had a chance to meet...

Poly, tell 'em about the 3rd Continent for HOMM III

I have at home some unbelievable screenshots  :D ...will post them later  *freak* with Equilibris patch comes random map generator and it is much easier to create custom maps, generator do the dirty (boring) work and then you micromanage  the rest *dance* but generator doesn't make lower/higher terain so I must do it by myself, but nevermind, it is still great fun  *ok* btw, there is also tool for balancing map/creatures/artifacts/etc... so fun is endless  *xxx* *xxx* *xxx*

Heroes 4 is my favorite and together with Heroes 3 I have literally played it for hundreds of hours. I want to try Heroes 5 but my computer isnt up to it. For those who have played it how is it compared to 3 and 4?

Title: Re: Heroes of Might and Magic
Post by: Lord Rogue on September 14, 2007, 19:49:33 PM
Well... it depends on personal opinion... those who prefered HOMM IV to HOMM III, reviled HOMM V

On the contrary, those who liked HOMM III better than HOMM IV, liked HOMM V

It is more like HOMM III than HOMM IV in most parts :-\

I like both Heroes III and Heroes IV very much. Heroes III is balanced better... And it used lessons from the first two games to achieve a very good setup. Also the map editor is very good. Heroes IV... Is something special. It took a brave step back to the sources, bringing back some of the simple sense of wonder from Heroes I and II without the sucky graphics and arbitrary randomness. Its advancement pacing is better, too. And castle versatility should have been introduced ages ago. That said, it was released without fixing lots of bugs and inconveniences. Some things aren't balanced well. Some concepts weren't properly developed. So it's a fun game, if a little unripe.

I've worked for over a year on a two-layer, Large map for Heroes III. It has six players, with two allies versions, and the exploration possibilities are staggering. The result, if I do say so myself, was a very good map. If anyone is interested, I could send it to them  *rose*

My opinion is that HOMM V is better than all others...Main thing what get HOMM V better than other is graphic , units look , battles , look of field in battles , heroes balance ...and some new options...etc

What in HOMM V sux comparing to II III IV is a storyline....
Old (II III IV) parts heave 10x times better story and introspection than HOMM V

But if we forget about that , single maps for lan , online or network.... Rock comparing to old parts of HOMM

i haven't played this game almost a year, so no pictures.  When the leader is strong enough then i  kick the montsrums out and play only with my hero.  Strategy is simple,  In the start of the battle I start shooting enemys and when they get close to me then I teleport myself to the other side of the gameboard.  Also  before  every battle I have  drinked immortality and in  the middle of the battle I also drink immortality if nesesary.  Also  there are skills that manages to controll enemy troops so it's easy.  And lots of other tiny skills that i have gained  during the gameplay

OK, we all know that, I thought if you have screenshots maybe....nevermind....... I once had crew of 3 or 4 (can't recall exactly, it was long time ago) lvl40 (limit) heroes with some "fine" artifacts and combined skills (summon devil and similar stuff) :D :D :D   Btw, I strongly suggest map "Alexandra the great" for downloading  *ok* one of the best scenarios ever! ...talking about HOMM4 of course  *evil*

when I test-run maps (specifically scripts, which are very buggy), I use a predefined character called "The Author's Will"... she is useless to check the balancing... because she's predesigned to get through ANYTHING

speaking of maps, I'm still in the progress of making a non-conventional HOMM IV map... a quest-like map, inspired by the way you play platform games... generally you may, or may not, have a town for yourself in the end (that, like MOST EVERYTHING, depends on YOUR choices)... you get a lot of linear choices which may or may not influence a balance of dark side/light side points which would in the end influence your choice of action...

synopsis: Ronar, a ranger, is knocked unconscious by a bandit while hunting in the forest. He wakes up in a completely different world, one which is controlled by a ruthless, greedy Pirate Lord... and is drawing nearer to a point where the legions of hell would invade it... while initially it appears that Ronar's quest is simply to find out how the hell he can get home, inevitable clashes between him and the Pirate Lord's minions, not to mention the meddling of Vadaelin, the Last of the Immortals... and the interferences posed by a mad Vampiric Priest called Hex which may or may not be evil and may or may not become your greatest ally (again, all depends on your choices)...

Possible endings: 4 (all are victory of SOME sort). The map is so thoroughly designed a player can actually find 3 different cheat consoles which would allow him to skip levels or boost himself... if he knows where to look for them :P amount of traps: innumerable. wild geese chase and useful rumors: innumerable (see the 5th screenshots)... random blurbs: too many to count)... scripts... geez... this is why of 12 planned "levels" only 6 are complete already :P

screenshots:

Level 1 - The Fishermen Village
(http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/6076/rq01cu1.jpg)

Level 2 - The Mountains Pass
(http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/4084/rq02gg2.jpg)

Level 3 - The Cursed Caves
(http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/9738/rq03so8.jpg)

Level 4 - The Forest of Wisdom (also knwon as: Vadaelin's Forest)

Level 5 - The Pirate Beach (+ the Bogs of Death and the Isle of magic) - example of rumors
(http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/6848/rq041qc6.jpg)

Level 6 - The City of Corason (the Pirate Lord's capital, BTW) - example of random blurbs

No one speaks about HOMMV. It's very hardware demanded, so I have to buy new graphic for my office comp  :-X
Between III and IV i'll give my vote to III. It's more balanced and dynamic. Whole game, no make up  :)

My personal favorite in the series besides No 1 which is the intruduction to the new age of gaming and it is favorite because of that and been classical, is the second instalment in the series nice small graphics hard as hell campaign and scenarios (In the max mode ofc) for me No 3 was easy when you can take legions of archers or other roaming monsters. No 4 from some time after you do not need units at all (Ok perhaps some Titans to give you iniative) but i played only with archmages and a fighter characters - mass slow-implosion-implosion-disintegrate-disintegrate-fighter attack end of combat, thing that had his beauty but it kept me so little time on the screen compared to other games. No 5 is fantazie, full of graphics etc have played limited time so i reserve my opinion for that for a future referance. So in general HoMM is one of my favorite game series - prefered army units Titans-Archmages-Liches-Archangels-Elf Archers-Dragons
/me kicks Blizzart for Starcraft 2 bring it out at some time so to take a week off work to play it  *crazy*

I am sure that the WakeOfGods 3.5.8. version of Heroes 3 is the best. It has commander, new createrues, artifacts ..... and most importantly experience of all creatures, the game becomes harder to play.

The serie up to HOMM 4 was very much about having a superhero. Especially HOMM 3 and 4. I don't recall the number of time in HOMM 3, when you develop Mastery of Earth to have Mass Slow and Town Portal, and Air or Water Mastery for Mass Haste and Mass Prayer respectively. Except against Black dragons, your opponents just can't even move a finger.
Same thing with HOMM 5, with a combo of 3-4 heroes packed together. Between the support spellcaster and the warriors, you just destroy whole armies.
And with Diplomacy skills you can even recruit/downsize your opponent's army befori e the battle takes place.

HOMM 5 at least bring more balance with the hero. They can be highly destructive by themselves (Dark Elves/Necro/Mages), but overall your troops are what matters. The Hero comes more at boosting troops like in HOMM 3, but not like in being the all-powerful God of War.

By the way, there is buzz about Ubi Soft preparing a MMO version of HOMM 5.
Anybody heard of it ?
If true, I'm in big time  *YAHOO* *bravo* *YAHOO* *bravo* *YAHOO*

Have fun,
Starbuck

Since my boyfriend showed me that game, it has become my favorite. My laptop unfortunately cant handle anything more than HOMM 3 + Wake of Gods but I've heard the other versions dont have that much too collect anyway. Its a super game, especially since it lets me change the map and add me more shiney and even more shiney, my heros can hardly get out of the castle from all the piles of resources just waiting outside   :D

that's too much editing of campaign  :P
and dont tell me you even use cheat codes with your map :D
maybe you should try finishing the game, or making edited missions a bit challenging.
the thrill never stops... and you'll definitely have more of your syndrome  *YAHOO*

You must try HOMM4! Heroes participate in combat fighting&magic plus you can have more than one hero  :D :D :D
that's the Nice feature on IV it lets the hero join the battle, with certain items, weaps, & skills *evil*
plus it has way better interface than III...
never tried the expansions though  *pardon*

Experience on creatures is new in the last version of WOG...but I don't like it too much and that's why I'm playing a previous version (has artifacts for commander too) :D

Since I found out about the latest version, I never played any other version, so I don't remember anything.

Experience on creatures makes the game much harder when playing against the computer. Also you must think twice before attacking some creatures from the map.

I played once with a friend, and the artefacts on the commander made him invincible, even after he destroied all my army he could not kill him(I had elixir of life too)

Yes, artifacts for commander are very very good and make the commander almost invincible :)

HOMM5>

I like to play with 2 races , Dark Elfes and Undeads

Darkelfes >two words : Black dragons
Undeads > transfer all enemy units in their own using portal (other races units become undeads)+ what give big bonus leading with undead hero

wait til you play the elves and those uber-powerful dark elf sorcerers  :)

small tip : you are going to play the heroes from all campaigns all together at various point, so choose the skills in the development tree wisely  :P

you DO mean, the main heroes, right? not just any second-tier heroes that i hire....? (of course, im just making sure :P)
and btw, so far i like the demons *bear*

Yeah I mean the main heroes and their occasional side-kicks, not the heroes-for-hire :)
The demons are great, but the campaign scenarii do not let you use full advantage of their gateway capacity. Not enough big battles, and one annoying map with the elven druids ...  *Angry*

I am in the process of making my own map :), cause I am sick of playing all those scenario's which have no plot. Its really hard and I am basing it on Lord of the Rings (of course  :D), but I hope it turns good in the end ;)

Nope dude, the question was like "why do you play HOMM5 without the updates and extensions" ?

in Hammers of faith, you got the basic games + patches + caravans mode  *YAHOO* + Dwarf race
in Tribes of the East, you got new creature specialization choice (like in HOMM4) + Orc race

So whatever extension you play, it's still a much better game, than just basic HOMM5 ;)

:o :o :o I strongly suggest you to play HOMM3+expansions, then HOMM4+expansions and after that HOMM5+expansion for full and very loooooong pleasure!  *bear*

I play it and yeah, Im even still play the heroes 3, 4, and 5! Undead is the best  *YAHOO*
