The game is free to play for everyone and even though it is possible to purchase diamonds to help you with the development of your empire, it is not needed to be able to play the game or to be able to compete with others. Strategy and teamwork is still of bigger importance than diamonds in Imperia Online.

My question is this - can anyone tell me of someone who managed to get elite troops without using diamonds.

Please bear in mind - I am all for people getting an advantage by paying for diamonds - why else would people buy them, and how else would you fund a 'free-to-play' game. But I am concerned that I am missing something major if it is really possible to compete without buying diamonds.

In the server I am playing - there is one player who spends in the region of 1000 diamonds a day apparently - V6 177. How true this is, I do not know - but it is clear he is spending a lot - when the support guys investigated they just said he was spending a lot in the temple, so couldn't be cheating. But, he is pretty much donating an entire alliance's troops - purely through spending real life cash. That is not strategy, as was suggested - thats spending money - nothing else.

I hadn't realised until reading, that you have to pay if you need to capitulate to players, after the free one - if that isn't a way of draining real life money, I do not know what is. A guy is behind because he hasn't spent enough on diamonds, so he gets picked on by a player - and you ask him to find diamonds to stop himself being attacked- that is mean :) tbh - I've never capitulated, but its not nice asking people to pay to be able to do that.

If you could find a way for alliance members to send defense to each other - then it would be true - you could indeed play the game and compete, even without spending lots of diamonds in the process. Alliances would even themselves out. On that subject, it would also be good if people could time attacks - that way, smaller players who dont spend as much in the game, might be able to compete by sending field assaults timed with others fortress sieges - and would be able to hit the bigger players/alliances (or, in reality the big diamond spenders). If you combined that with a delay, at the very least, in military medicine, then it would be possible for those of us that dont spend 400 euros a week in the game, to compete. I realise that you wont really wont to do anything that stops this big spenders from winning - you even give them exclusive access to support because you want their money - but I would suggest you look at the business model - 400 people spending 10 euros a week, is better than 4 people spending 50 euros a week - if you can compete whilst paying a sensible amount of money - that is fine - but when you see people spending 100s of euros a week, and that puts them so far ahead, and able to put others out of the game - I personally believe you lose more players than you gain.

It might be that I am totally wrong - and the top guy with 14 mill score is just a brilliant tactician and the rest of the server are totally useless at the game. I suspect, its down to pure money and nothing else tbh.

Please dont ignore the small guys who are willing to pay for the game, but wont spend hundreds of euros a week - if you do, they will leave.

Are these your suggestions? Otherwise I will have to move the topic to the 'Questions'-board.

I'm always in top 10, never spent a dime... but yes, of course, diamonds give you huge advantage, means you never can be the first. I like to see twho things here. Again country flags, it gave a very nice point to be first in your country and sign about those who are not using diamonds ;)
