Yes, I have started playing medieval II but looks like Rome is still better.

played all, and all expensions for all of them. still think the original RTW is the best :)

My Fiancee wants to buy me a game for christmas, is Rome total war that much better than medieval II? I'm still playing Rome total war, so is it worth it?

For me both games are fine  :)


but Medieval II have many more stuffs to play with during the campaign. Such as One of your Cardinal becomes the pope, etc.

I have played the Total War serie since Shogun, and Rome + Barbarian Invasion TW is definitely the best one so far.
Not so much because of the engine or the units, but because of the gameplay, the generals and more historical accuracy than Medieval TW.
Some of those flaws are being corrected with the expansion pack (Crusades), and the priests and merchants are good ideas. But all in all, no real improvement.

Right now, they seem to develop a 17th - early 18th century game with better naval warfare. Frankly, I would so much more that they redesign Shogun + Mongol TW with the best ideas of Rome and Medieval. They already got the engine and the maps. Now, we would have a much more realistic siege warfare.

hmm Shogun is Shogun ^_^ tha best (1st love :D), lol. Never played Rome, playing Medieval II right now, got it last week... :( it took too long..
well anyways, Shogun haven't play that in a couple of years... About Medieval... hmm i like the fact Portugal is in it.. I've just unblocked them so I can start playing with them :P... It sucks when Portugal is only playable in expansions.. like in Civ games love Civ... but having to wait for the 2nd expansion to play with my nation, it's annoying... in Medieval they're there at the beginning :)
Dunno if that happened in Rome or the 1st Medieval but I really like the idea of buying mercenaries and the Crusades having special mercenary troops to buy is pretty cool...
Though don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but why can't I fight sea battles ? I wanted to fight(and see) my own sea battles...

Medievil has to be the most annoyng war game to be invented. Apart from this  *xxx*
I take over europe, eliminate every empire on the game, and im about to slaughter the danes (viking desendants) and then 3 rebellions start at once 0.0 in different parts of the map and i end up losing the whole thing >.< darn hard mode  *Angry*

If your think Total war expansions are good go to the forim and Down load from mods   STAINLESS STEEL  They have added more empires to fight and it is more historically correct. 

Are this games like rise of nations, civilization, or age of empires, i have never heard of any of them

For that Total War seris, I like the Rome most! But the next series (Empire: Total War) will be great! Because in that series if you a charismatic leader you don't even need to recruit a army! Army is the one that come over to you *dance*

i think that sea battles will be able to fight like a normal battles.(in empire total war)
p.s. liked medieval total war 2 the best.

i think you have that on youtube.you need to enter in one file in medieval in program files where is written which nations are locked,wich are unlockable.you should copy that file,if something goes wrong,and change one i program files by cutting those nations under locked and unlockable and pasting it in the nations you can play with...
damn,i deleted the game....try to find it on youtube,or in google try to enter medieval total war 2 cheats,because i cant remember how i found it.anyway i remember that then you need to finish the campaign and you can play with all nations. :hmmm: :hmmm: :hmmm: :hmmm:

RTW has better by gameplay than MTW - some good tricks in MTW but overall RTW is better

but exp - Barbarian invasion just is not that good, i def expected more from it... And Alexandar  simply - SUX! good historical period to play but lame campagne

as for MTW - kingdoms is a solid exp but nothing more

TW simply allways make a worst exp than a original version.... and it all started whit mongol invasion...

if only there is a castle/city in RTW, i wouldn't need another game in my life....

Medieval 2 is just too easy. Impossible to lose even in hardest mode.  But graphics rocks compared to RTW. They should update RTW and it would be my fav game ever

All of Vanilla TW games are shit! No historical accuracy, stupid banners, arrow markers, etc. :D For me TW Vanilla games are liko pop music - they're made only for fun and for big palyers masses (I guess mostly children :D). In other words it's commerse, nothing more special  *freak* I only prefer mods. currently paly Rome Total Realism and it's hundred times better than vanilla, RTR team put good work there, bravo!  *bravo*
