[GUIDE] What do the different envelope colors mean?

After making the 'What does this icon on the Global Map mean?'-topic, I thought it would be a good idea to make a similar topic about the message icons in the game. I made a little overview of the colored envelopes and their categories and together with Angela, Muwe and seyhun I made a list of all the events we could think of, to show you which events belong to which category. If you can think of an event we missed, then please let us know and we will add it as soon as possible.

Transactions
You receive a message in this category when:

• resources you offered for sale on the Market have been sold;
• resources you offered on the Market have been returned to you, because the offer expired;
• you have received gold from another player, using the Gold Transfer option.

Alliance
You receive a message in this category when:

• you have been invited to join an alliance;
• a new member has joined your alliance;
• your alliance has changed the standings with another alliance;
• a player has left or has been expelled from your alliance;
• your alliance has changed the alliance tax;
• elections for leader have started in your alliance;
• a rally point has been founded or destroyed;
• bonuses/minuses from the influence range of your alliance have changed;
• your alliance has taken or lost control over a castle;
• bonuses you receive from an ally's wonder have changed;
• a member of your alliance has donated diamonds to the alliance;
• a new poll has been created in your alliance;
• an alliance research has started or finished;
• your loyalty status and its bonuses have changed;
• an ally has won a lottery ticket.

Gamemaster
You receive a message in this category when:

• promotions become available;
• important announcements are being distributed by the team of Imperia Online;
• you are being contacted by the team of Imperia Online;
• the lord of the realm competition has started;
• you have been punished by the team of Imperia Online.

Alliance Military
You receive a message in this category when:

• your alliance army has attacked an enemy holding, or when your alliance army has been attacked in one of your owned holdings;
• army has been donated to your alliance;
• an army of your alliance has arrived.

Tribune
You receive a message in this category when:

• a new conversation in your alliance occurs.

Private
You receive a message in this category when:

• you have received a personal message.

Military
You receive a message in this category when:

• a battle has concluded, either in attack or defense.

Espionage
You receive a message in this category when:

• an unsuccessful espionage against your empire occurs;
• your spies have carried out their mission (un)successfully.

Other
You receive a message in this category when:

• a player has capitulated to you;
• you have been ignored by a player;
• you received bonus from your wonder;
• have been invited to babysit;
• beginner protection has expired;
• you have won the lottery.

This category also contains several sub-categories, which are as follows:

• Army Arrival
• • your military units have arrived in your holding/province.
• Great People
• • espionage by a dynastic relative has failed;
  • a new great person has been born in your empire;
  • your emperor or empress has died;
  • an aristocrat has become famous and you can add him or her to the imperial court.
• Expansion
• • a new province has been annexed;
  • the foundation of a colony, military post or trading post has started or concluded;
  • a colony, military post or trading post has been destroyed.
• Festivals
• • you have been charged for the subscription of a festival.
• Gifts
• • you have received a gift during a gift session;
  • gifts have automatically been opened.
• Premium
• • you have received 1 free diamond;
  • premium has been activated or expired;
  • you have won diamonds in the lords of the realm competition.
• Mobilization
• • your army has automatically been mobilized.

Announcements
You receive a message in this category when:

• important messages are being sent for your alliance members.
